We invite you to participate in the upcoming further review of the SAICA Constitution. The review project will commence on 1 June 2020 and the historic context to this project is outlined below.
- At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 26 June 2018, the Chairman of SAICA announced that the Board would set up a project to review the governance structure of SAICA and would involve members in the process.
- In response to this, the Governance Review Task Team (GRTT) was formed in terms of a SAICA Board resolution and convened its first meeting on 27 August 2018. The GRTT met numerous times and consulted with members and stakeholders to reach a final proposal on a new Constitution for SAICA.
- The GRTT’s proposed Constitution was tabled at the AGM on 26 June 2019, where it was approved. However, at the meeting, the members indicated that a further opportunity for consultation on the Constitution was required.
The new Board, at its first meeting in 2020, decided on initiatives to address the outstanding issues related to the 2018/2019 Constitutional review. These initiatives included the review of the disciplinary process in the By-laws and the further review of the SAICA Constitution. Priority was given to the revision of the disciplinary process and this initiative has been concluded and was communicated to members on 21 May 2020.
The Constitutional review initiative will commence on 1 June 2020 and members are requested to provide suggestions to further enhance the SAICA Constitution. The current Constitution can be viewed on SAICA’s Governance website. The GRTT’s previous communication to members is also available on the Governance website.
Members are advised to take the time to motivate their proposed amendments to the Constitution and email these to PhathuN@saica.co.za. The email address will be active from 1 June 2020 and will close on 31 July 2020.
Let us work together to make SAICA the superior brand custodian it should be!
